The Pioneers We are Peter and Anja Grootaert. In January 2023, we traveled to Bulgaria with our children, Reynaldo and Valeria, to live and work there. For over 10 years before, we had been struck by both the beauty and the deep need of Bulgaria. And finally, the time had come for us to actually get started. We want to let the people of Bulgaria know that they are precious in God's eyes. We want to respond to acute needs, but above all, we want to offer more structured assistance and also work with disadvantaged people to consciously shape their own future.
For this purpose, we established the Ti si tsenen foundation, which means: You are precious. This applies to: the elderly – who feel forgotten and alone; the young – who don't know what the future holds; the disabled – who need help and guidance; the Rakia addict – who don't know how else to live; the sick – who fear for their lives; the Roma – who feel trapped in their poverty; and so on.
Of course, we cannot do this alone; we need practical support from people who want to help, in the areas of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, carpentry, masonry, all kinds of practical jobs, children's work, music, etc., as well as financial support to be able to continue to finance this in the long term.
Reynaldo and Valeria have now taken care of the eight stray cats and one stray dog, all living around our house. These wild animals have been tamed and together they form a friendly group.
